Do you think 'big data' is just another peice of jargon that's going to distract you from what really matters to your business? If revenue matters to your business (which we sure hope it does) you may want to re-consider, but that's up to you. We would however suggest having a quick look at the infographic below, from Umbel, to see what the future of big data revenue looks like for enterprise organisations.

Many organisations claim they are have big data but only a small fraction of those are 'doing' big data. Previous research conducted by Nimbus Ninety in partnership with EY showed us that only 3% of orgnisations are actively involved in mature stage big data projects and although 81% agree that data should be at the heart of all decision making only 31% of companies have significantly restructured their operations to help do this.

Big data is a term used to describe the unbelievable growth and accessibility of data and information on the Internet. This data is essentially an unorganised extension of your what your customers do and think and therefore organising and understanding the data can bring you immeasurable benefit.

According to the infographic below, big data has almost quadrupled in the last three years, with no signs of slowing down. The good news is that hardware costs are lessening as software and services are becoming responsible for big data revenue.
